Smoke'n

Nathan does a lot of cooking in our house. He does not shy away, but I think his favorite ways to cook involve the grill, the deep fryer or the smoker. We have done a number of things in the smoker, but until this past weekend we had not tried making that Texas favorite, the brisket.

All rubbed down and ready to go. We actually have two smokers, a charcoal and an electric smoker. Because the brisket was going to take a few hours we selected the electric smoker. We use the charcoal one for shorter smoking adventures like salmon.

Nathan says living in Texas makes him feel like having a smoker is taking part in the culture. Obviously we have already dug in and started eating in the photo below. I forgot to take a photo of it when it was right out of the smoker.

And this is Nathan proudly displaying our Thanksgiving turkey from last year. I decided to throw this photo into this post incase you couldn't tell from the brisket photo that March is pretty warm in Texas, you could see that November is equally nice here. Love the flip flops and shorts on Thanksgiving!

The Thanksgiving turkey is actually why we got the second electric smoker. Dana and BJ got Nathan the charcoal one for Christmas one year, but got the electric later because we were starting the turkey at midnight, to have it done for an early meal and we didn't really want to get up every few hours to add burettes and wood chips. Home Depot also had a good deal on it because they were switching brands the next season.

  2. Yummy! I've never heard of an electric smoker - we've always used the charcoal kind - which is probably why we only smoke things on major holidays - I'm definitely going to check into getting one!
